Cannabis appears in the lore of women’s health across cultures, geographies, generations and religions. Women practiced the healing arts without restriction, up until 1000 BC, when female plant healers began to be persecuted as witches.

Women have known the benefits of Cannabis for stimulate contraction in labor, inducubg abortion, relaxing the uterus in labor and menstrual cramping, inhibiting milk productions, reducing fevers; to easing nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and to treat labor pain. This course is a learning experience designed to restore to women the ancient knowledge of this powerful herb and to update the learner with science-based knowledge of the role of the endocannabinoid system in women's health and how Cannabis and other interventions can modulate or tone this system for optimal health.

Introduction to the Course

Hi, I’m Dr. Michelle Sexton

I knew since I was 18 years old that I wanted to work in the area of Women's health. I became a childbirth educator, then a midwife and herbalist. After 10 years of catching babies, I knew I wanted to do more, and attended Naturopathic Medical School at Bastyr University in Seattle. During my medical education, and as a postdoctoral fellow, I researched the endocannabinoid system (ECS) at the University of Washington.

I knew that learning cannabinoid medicine was going to become a part of my medical practice. I have been working with patients for the last 10 years, helping them to tune and tone their ECS, while continuing to work as a researcher. In this course I will share what I have learned!
